Summer in the city.

That’s certainly how it felt today in Leeds.

Setting off late morning to cast our vote in the village I was already hot by the time we reached the bus stop! ( Typically British of course I’d taken a jacket which I didn’t the rest of the day carrying but the two poor ladies in the poling booth were sat in their coats as the room gets no sun.)

Waiting at the bus stop a neighbour kindly offered us a lift into Bingley and as a consequence we got an earlier train. Plenty of time when we got there for a free coffee and a cheese scone in M & S and a look around. Time too to head to the Victoria quarter, again just a look around, all I bought was a crochet hook.
Time for a drink and then off to Leeds Grand for a matinee performance of ‘Come From Away’, the reason for out trip.
We saw this in London before lockdown, Grace had booked it for us that time as she’d seen it and said we must too but when I saw it was in Leeds on it’s UK tour I decided to book again.  We weren’t disappointed, we both thought it even better than before and there was an emotional standing ovation at the end.

With no intermission we were back out in the sun before 5. We decided to try Flat Iron as I’d heard it recommended. Last time we were there it was Byron’s. I’m not a great steak eater but it was very nice if a bit rich. The nice surprise was at the end when you get a token to exchange for an ice cream as you leave. Just what I needed to cut that richness.

Of course not everything could go well, one train delayed which entailed changing platform to get the next and standing room only. The bus was ‘due’ when we got to Bingley but didn’t show, this always seems to happen to us. So we got a taxi.
That aside we’ve had a lovely day out and the atmosphere in Leeds was definitely that of summer and rather festive.
