The grand finale
What a fun last day with Mr. Paul. We had a full rehearsal and then parents came for the show at 2:00.
A theme that runs through the Aboriginal stories and the Rainbow Serpent is the bringing of water to the land. The kids all did a blessing for the school with the bull roarers and lo and behold we had a mini blizzard rush through the town. They were the biggest flakes I had ever seen and falling straight down with no wind. For some reason I'm not getting the links to work. You will have to google bull roarers to see how they sound. It's a wooden flat piece of wood on a string that you swing in front of you and it makes a big whirring noise. Now imagine 20 middle schoolers each with one of these (they didn't swing over their heads just right in front of them) and no one hit anyone else :-)
I took a photo of the snow out the window but it didn't show up very well in the collage.
We also all got some face paint. The kids were either koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles, Tasmanian Devils, or kookaburras and there were stylized symbols for each of these. I chose the symbol of the star, mostly because it was simple. I had one of the 4th graders paint it for me.
It was just a great time.
