Spitalfields

Spitalfields is a vibrant locality in the City of London served by Liverpool Street Station. The market there can trace its history back to the 13th century. It is not a specialist produce market like Smithfield (meat), Billingsgate (fish) or Covent Garden (fruit & veg). The main photo is taken in Bishops Square. I don't know whether these animal figures are literary characters but I found it quite an amusing work, not least because they look so serious. The extras were taken from the roof garden of the offices of Allen and Overy, one of the "Big Five" City law firms. One is of the LAS air ambulance on the helipad on top of the Royal London Hospital, Mile End Road. The other is a view of the Cityscape with the "Gherkin" hemmed in by other high rise office blocks. Allen and Overy were hosting the 20th anniversary celebration of the London Legal Walk organised by the London Legal Support Trust. The LLST raises money to support organisations that offer free legal advice and services to people who cannot afford legal or court fees. No-one should be denied access to justice simply because they can't afford it. This year's Walk is on 18th June and I will be there with the rest of my RBAET team, our 14th year, keen to keep our record as the top fundraisers.
