South Window, Diddlebury

I was up at 06.00 this morning in order to collect  my son from the station. I was lucky. He was up at 03.00 in order to get his flight from Sweden.

It is great to see him again, he manages one or two visits a year and we will have  a few days to chin wag and catch up with his work and social life.

He didn't want to go out anywhere understandably, and stayed at home relaxing with Mrs I and Hollie, while I went out to have a rummage around Diddlebury village and St. Peter's Church.

There is a great deal of history attached to the church which dates back to the Norman conquest. There are just three stained glass windows and only one (The North window) still retains genuinely medieval glass.The South window is dedicated to a very important clergyman, The Rev. Thomas Underwood who died in 1860. He was much revered and respected and was instrumental in arranging the restoration of the church, reference to which is made in the script panels at the base of the window. The depiction in the window shows the descent from the cross and the entombment of Christ.

Weather has been fine all day but rain this evening.

The South window is the work of Done & Davies who are responsible for many stained glass windows in Shropshire churches.
