Many babies in African countries come home from hospital wrapped in newspaper, to keep them warm, (that's the fish 'n' chips connection) because their families are too impoverished to provide clothes for them.

I wanted to watch the Wimbledon semi-finals today and felt slightly less self-indulgent when I got out my knitting needles and wool to knit this little top for a baby somewhere in Africa. Pastel shades are a no-no as many of the garments will never get washed, so my first contribution is a rich purple.

I don't feel a bit guilty now about sitting and enjoying the Bryan brothers match, or the ladies' singles semis.
