A day together
In the end the best ‘celebration’ is just doing something together. So today is our actual 35th wedding anniversary - and I still can’t believe it is that many years- was spent exploring more of the Ironbridge museums, plus the gorge and bridge itself.
We had coffee overlooking the bridge. The Main Street is mostly cafes and small shops. It used to very pretty, and I expect very busy in the summer. We sat outside and had coffee and a toasted teacake. After a big breakfast in the hotel!!
We spent 2 hours in that area, exploring a big antique shop then drove along to Jackfield to the tile museum, which I loved. So many beautiful tiles, and loads of history there. Still making tiles in the same factory. We bought a teapot stand tile as a souvenir. Then on to Coalport to the bone china factory, with more of the same. Did you know bone china is made of actual ground up bones? It seems obvious, but I didn’t know that - and not just in the past but it still is. Mixed into the clay 50% is cow bone. So do vegetarians drink from bone china? I bet some do.
We went back to the hotel shattered at 5.30. Dozed a bit then had dinner at the hotel.
I’m backblipping this - so all packed up and ready to check out. Planning to visit another museum before heading home. And planning the next bit of time off together for asap!!
