Pink Ribbon Walk at Hampton Court

An early start as a friend and I were at Hampton Court volunteering by 7am, helping register all the walkers doing the 20 and 10 mile Pink Ribbon walks for Breast Cancer Care. It was so cold I wore 4 layers plus waterproof trousers , thick socks and waterproof walking shoes! We didn’t have much to do as like most running events they had a chip on their entry number so no manual checking them in. So we were in charge of giving out T shirts to people who entered on the day and those who had been sent the wrong size, or had not received one . They were all wearing their T shirts over their other warm layers!
We were very glad we were not marshalling out on the course as it was very very cold.
I did one of these walks many years ago and used to take groups of girls to help when I was working.  It never as cold as this before.

The 10 mile walk just went on the towpath to Ham, back over Teddington Lock, the 20 mile to Kew on Kingston side of the river over Kew Bridge and back.
Back home by about 12 and lovely to be in a warm house.

The photo is of the ribbons that many entrants of past races tie on the ropes at the start/finish line…see extra.
