Museum visits

My Nijmegen brother and I visited two museums today in The Hague. In the first one was an exhibition with work from Roelant Savery, a Dutch 17th century painter. He lived for a time at the Austrian Court where he painted the landscapes. He was very interested in the animals and flowers he saw there and at court which influenced his work later on. 

In the second one we saw an exhibition by various painters from the so called The Hague school of painters. Late 19th century, early 20th century. In this exhibition paintings of children in that time. Either playful or enduring hardship.

In that museum we also saw a panorama painting of Scheveningen. A circular painting in which you can see miles away. The panorama was first shown in 1881 and is now the oldest of the few remaining panoramas in the world. 

In the blip all of the above. Besides that we saw lots of paintings by Dutch masters. We had a long and wonderful day.
