Es i i grwydro o gwmpas Yr Eglwys Newydd (a thipyn bach o Ystum Taf hefyd) y bore 'ma.
Mae'n ddiddorol edrych ar rannau o hen Eglwys Newydd lle mae hanes dal yn weladwy. Dyma'r 'Hen Fecws', ond dydw i ddim yn gwybod dim byd amdani, felly bydd rhaid i mi ddyfalu. Yn hanesyddol, roedd 'becws' yn ‘popty mawr cyhoeddus’, ac yn yr amser cyn pawb yn cael eu ffwrn eu hunain, roedd y cymuned yn defnyddio yr un popty mawr.
Fyddai fy nyfaliad bod fyddai hon yw'r safle'r hen fecws cymunedol ar gyfer yr ardal. Hoffwn i wybod mwy, mae'r hanes hwn yn llythrennol ar y stryd, ond dydw i ddim yn gwybod unrhywun i ofyn... eto.
Mae'n ddiddorol sut mae'r hanes i'w weld yn mynd ar goll. Yn gobeithio bydda i'n gallu ffeindio rhywun sy'n cofio.

I went for a wander around Whitchurch (and a little bit of Llandaff North too) this morning.
It is interesting to look at parts of old Whitchurch where history is still visible. This is the 'Old Bakehouse', but I don't know anything about it, so I'll have to guess. Historically, a 'becws' (bakehouse) was a 'large public oven', and in the time before everyone had their own oven, the community used the same large oven.
My guess would be that this would be the site of the old community bakery for the area. I'd like to know more, this story is literally on the street, but I don't know anyone to ask...yet.
It's interesting how history seems to be getting lost. Hoping I can find someone who remembers.
