The clock

We spent time wandering around Kendal and wanted to revisit the Brewery Arts Centre. When walking through the entrance we spotted this clock which John immediately recognised. It used to stand outside the Jungle cafe on the A6, (before the M6), on Shap*, a place the family would visit when driving to Cumberland from Cheltenham. According to the stone, see extra, there were seven of these around the UK. We chatted to a man who was part of the Brewery Arts setup who was impressed with Johns memory, this was all 70 years ago. The clock needed attention and he vowed to get it fixed, John had inspired him. The Arts centre is impressive, we visited some 30 years ago, it is standing the test of time.

It was haircut day, great fun with Mel the hairdresser, she was very tolerant and funny. Later when resting after all that walking this darling pusscat sat in me, apparently I was honoured, she is sweet.

The route was busy, and notoriously hazardous in poor weather conditions. Often in winter the road became snow-bound and impassable. Ironically, when the M6 arrived, it spelt disaster to many of the prosperous shops, hotels and other businesses, on which the economy of the village relied.
