Haa o Grobsness

Winter doesn't want to let us go, a cold wind from the north, mostly dry but there was a snow flutter now and again.  Clouds broke in the evening, sunshine, didn't last long, cloudy again. No hope of seeing the amazing northern lights tonight.

Up early, washing out after breakfast.  Walkies with Sammy around Scalloway.  Headed out for more walkies before lunch.  Popped down to Laura's in the afternoon.  A quiet evening at home and the telly, last walkies of the day, back to feet up.

A bitterly cold walk, but we managed.  It was fine to get a break from the wind behind this old house.  Built around 1800, for George Barron, merchant. The mason was Andrew Herculeson, Easthouse, Grobsness. Barron did not live there long, and thereafter the house was inhabited by various fishery officers. (Ninian Stuart, John Couper, Robert Cowie). After c. 1850 the house became a block of tenements, being occupied until late 1920s. Since then, the house has sadly fallen into a poor state.  I'm maybe imaging it, but I feel like o remember the old roof on the building.  Lovely architecture inside, almost feels like a castle.  The Haa of Grobsness, Delting.
