Back in the field
A glorious day - hang on that's three in a row.
We've had a big and wonderful day - out in the field with Finola, and another friend, Conor from Gormú . First we headed to a remote field somewhere near Castletownsend and looked for an obscure stone covered in cupmarks (prehistoric markings - little manmade scoops in a rock, anything from 2000-4000 years old!). Finola wanted to record it and came prepared with water, gloves and a stiff brush. The cupmarks were revealed beautifully. Then we headed off to Drishane House (home to Edith Somerville whose book I'd read recently). It's a wonderful house and estate, still in Somerville hands with glorious views out to sea, full of faded grandeur. We found another licheny stone and the Giant's Grave, and went to examine an odd tower, followed by an entire herd of frisky Dexter cattle.
We then repaired for lunch in Mary Ann's in Castltownsend where I managed to spill an entire bowl of piping hot chowder over my hand and over Finola's too - ouch! Then on to the church where Edith Somerville is buried and an admire of the stunning Harry Clarke stained glass windows - Finola gave us a master class, each window rammed with symbolism and meaning and incredible colours. My extra shows the beggar receiving half of St Martin's cloak - obviously! A quick look at the castle that gives its name to Castletownsend and a day well spent! Just one person missing.
Too many extras but they will be vanishing shortly.
The TV debut went well - phew! I have received lots of lovely messages. Take a look here should you fancy - you'll know which episode I'm in clue red mac.
And here's a hilarious article- untroubled by fact! The Kim Kardashian of holy wells then! Is my bum big enough? Don't answer that.
