Blossom Time
There was a distinct lightening of my mood this morning when the ever present rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for me to walk across the Meadows to my book group meeting in the leafy Grange. The cherry blossom was a resplendent pink against the blue sky and the grass seemed to be greener than usual. The only down side were the occasional Arctic gusts of wind that appeared out of nowhere to remind me it wasn’t just as warm as it looked from behind glass.
We met to discuss the book ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ by Amor Towles. It got a positive vote from us all. We enjoyed the droll sense of humour, the pithy sayings and the insightfulness of the main man, Count Rostov who had been sentenced to indefinite house arrest in the Grand Metropole Hotel in Moscow by a Bolshevik tribunal for being an aristocrat. The book has been made into a film starring Ewan McGregor but none of us was eager to see it because we didn’t think it could better the book.
After the discussion it was cake and coffee time - a time becoming more important almost than the book. My goodness how wonderful it was- a Nigella Lawson squished clementine and ground almond delight served with yoghurt. No lunch for this lady!
And it’s Friday again and time for TGIF drinks!
