Cambodian Cooking Class
Katie and I went to the cooking class at 1pm. We were with 3 canadians. I decided to make fresh pork spring rolls and chicken Amok. We all went to the local market first and got shown all the ingredients. The fish section of the market absolutely stank and had flies everywhere. Also the meat section had flies everywhere and they had whole pig heads all lined up. The heads all looked like they were smiling! We had to wear cooking hats which was rather funny. I had fun roiling the spring rolls together, they turned out quite big. You had to wet the rice paper first, bung everything in and then fold it up. We made the baskets for the chicken amok out of banana leaf. The teacher also showed us how to make flowers with carrots, it was impossible though but she did it perfectly everytime. Both courses I had made tasted really good. We then tried and strange banana pudding they showed us how to make. Don't think I will be doing it anytime soon though. They also have us lots of fruit...banana, lychees, snake fruit, mangosteen and other type of lychee but it had spiky skin. We had already bought them in markets before but we had never tried snake fruit which was so good. The outer shell feels like snake skin, hence the name!
Whipped out my mossy net tonight so I am not going to get bitten! First time the whole trip I have used it so far.
