Deliverance
I’ve had the most amazing day.
In the morning, after a Premier Inn breakfast, I walked back down to the cathedral to see the Mappa Mundi. 800 years ago, oak trees were felled and a calf was killed and skinned. The trees were cut and dried and made into a board, on which the skin was stretched and used as the background for a remarkable map of the world. It would take too long to tell you about it and about the library of chained books, so luckily the map has its own website where you can discover its glories for yourself: www.themappamundi.co.uk
And then it was off on another train - to Wales (Abergavenny, to be exact) and a lovely sunshiny walk along the River Usk and up to Llanfoist, where Sarah, Chris, Luke,Maria ,Merry and Otter were waiting.
We are staying in a beautiful cottage on the Monmouth and Brecon canal. It has its own kayak! Luke and Maria took me for a ride after supper. Otter wasn’t too keen to come aboard but he soon found his water legs :-)
