A couple of hours after posting yesterday's blip wondering about the heavy lift ship, the answer appeared .. it was waiting for better weather.

It's a poor image; taken by phone, from more than 2 miles away, on a misty morning ..
"The 400-ft harsh environment jackup Valaris 247 will be leaving the North Sea this year for a two-well contract with an undisclosed operator offshore Australia to start in mid-2024."

The Brage Viking offshore supply tug showed up with the jackup rig, and stayed around all day. Now it's off South, next destination a job with Shell Canada ..

Mid morning there were six little tugs moving around the perimeter : Peterel, Balmerino, Kitiwake, Inchcolm, Wave Spirit and Corringham; in the late afternoon Clyde Spirit, marked as pilot, showed up.

This morning (Thursday) it looks like the rig has been loaded onto the Xin Yao Hua.

@gen2 has a much better image of the same operation taken from the closer shore with a real camera.

Brage Viking
"High Ice-classed AHTS vessel capable of operations in harsh environment offshore regions, as well as Arctic/Sub-Arctic operations. Bollard pull 250 tonnes"

Thinking this kind of thing must be common at Dundee, where there are usually jackup rigs, and there's a story about why it was located off Burntisland instead.
