Robinson college window
John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens’ spectacular stained glass window at Robinson chapel is impossible to photograph decently.
In front of the top section is a dirty great brick pillar and part of a wall which is there apparently because of a dispute/miscommunication, or could it have been sheer stubbornness, between the architect and the commissioner, David Robinson, after whom the college is named. It’s a crazy story. But the window is incredible with its huge sun that’s partially obscured by the pillar. It’s quite weird and very wonderful.
There’s also an incredible library that we had a quick look at - commoners are not really allowed…
