Life At Dragonfly Cottage

Achillea flowerhead forming...

While I love flowers in full bloom I think some of the most interesting phases are as the flower forms, comes into bud, and afterward goes to seed. All part of the cycle of the life of the flower but seldom photographed as the flower in bloom in all it's lovely colors are sought after.

This is Achillea 'Paprika,' my favorite of the achilleas, a head of a cluster of bright red tiny flowers with a dot of yellow at the centers. Just gorgeous. But now the flowerhead is just forming and is a brilliant green, nubby headed little flower to be with soft ferny foliage. I am growing this in several colors, in pink and yellow and another red-orange, but this is my favorite one of all.

Come back to see it in full bloom very soon...
