Veggie Food Group lunch

It rained really heavily this morning so I took the car over to Alison’s, picking up Suzie on the way for our pooled veggie lunch. The theme was dishes with alcohol. Unfortunately the others were busy with grandchildren, moving house and getting a car serviced so they missed a very tasty lunch.

I made the starter which was garlic mushrooms in red wine. Suzie did a tasty moussaka with green lentils and spinach as well as aubergines, also with red wine. Luckily it had all cooked off as I was driving. Alison made 2 puddings as she felt the chocolate roulade with Baileys in the cream was not perfect. It was yummy. The surprise for me was her Campari granita - I’m not a Campari fan but with the orange and lemon juice it tasted really nice. The blip is Suzie looking on while Alison serves her roulade.

The conversation was varied - the woman who complained we didn’t talk enough about food wouldn’t be happy as we talked about politics, royalty or not, opera, TV drama, children with dyslexia (they each have a child with this), climate crisis, books, travel, trains, football. We mention the food-related topic of where we could get a decent veggie meal in the north-east.

Mr C had taken the van for its MOT which it passed. What he couldn’t pass was the road-closure due to a crash between a tractor and a car on the A697. He had to take a detour home via single track roads and over rapidly flooding fords. He made it - the river flood gates are closed.

Ella is having a brilliant time in Cornwall with her friend Ella L, her sisters and her mum. So far Nathaniel isn’t missing her.
