Vivienne

It was a 2 hour round trip to Ponteland for the breast screening appointment. They don’t screen as routine after age 70 and friends who have had to have treatment recently urged me to make an appointment.

After that Mr C dropped me off at the Cook and Barker pub at Newton-on-the-Moor for my first WI lunch. (He creased up when I told him I was joining but it’s not all jam and Jerusalem. Last year they had loads of fundraising for the day hospice #1 daughter attended. Also they have had training on testing water quality and check out the local river and do other environmental stuff). They have a lunch group testing out local hostelries so I signed up for that and today found the food was really good value and beautifully presented. 2 courses for £18. Of course there was only 1 veggie main out of 9 choices. The fish one had shellfish which I don’t eat so I asked for 2 veggie starters and got that for £16. Here is Vivienne enjoying her Bouillabaisse.

A woman called Rosie sat beside me. She was a blast from the past. We were in the same Women’s Group in the early 1980s before I moved south and had not seen each other since so had a lot of catching up to do. I also knew Vivienne from U3A Art Appreciation. She’s very knowledgeable and I enjoy our art and travel chats but we can’t talk about Gaza. Although she’s a very liberal Jew in many of her views, she was very offended by a post Katy put on Facebook. It was an enjoyable occasion.

Jo has flown to Kabul.
