Before the local council workers destroy the natural wild flowers on the verges I thought I should blip the Lady’s smock (Cardamine pratensis). During Lockdown there were thousands flowering but these will probably be “tidied up” soon. As a child I always called it Cuckoo flower because it starts to flower when cuckoos begin to call. Now cuckoos are seldom heard as they have declined by over three quarters since the 1980s and it still seems early for their arrival from Africa. Perhaps these flowers might escape the mower as they are close to a bush.
