Maison Carrée

Nîmes became the second Roman capital of the Gaul after Arles. Maison Carrée (the Square House) is one of the best preserved Roman temple that dates back to 16 BC. I has been nicely restored.
Not many people know that Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were inspired by its architecture, which in turn inspired the construction of Washington DC in a neo -classical style.
