Stork at Schierstein
My mum enjoyed the last full day of her first visit to Germany. We took her to Biebrich to see the Schloss (a fancy pink palace for those who don't click on the link).
After enjoying the gardens and an Apfelsaftschorle* on the sunny terrace, we headed up to Schierstein to see if we could find some storks.
My mother lives just outside Glasgow and as far as she knew Stork was a brand of margarine.
She was quite taken with these beautiful birds. Even more so when some of them started to display - laying their heads back across their back and making a really odd "klappern" sound.
Klappern is hard to explain, it's a bit like the stork had a pair of castanets in its mouth and the sound was echoed a wee bit.
My mum's off to bed early tonight. She's finding it hard to accept that she'll be going back to 13°C tomorrow lunchtime when it'll be 16°C here when she wakes up. She does like the warm.
