Luddite Walk No1.
The three Easter crosses outside St Peter’s Church Hartshead.
The church is thought to be of Saxon origin but was rebuilt in 1180.
Between 1811 and 1815 Patrick Brontë, father of the Brontë sisters was curate here.
It is said that on the night of 11/12th April 1812 he heard the sound of the Luddites as they passed on their way to Cartright’s Mill.
We were doing a recce for the Luddite Walk.
Taking the Pudseys on this walk a week on Thursday.
It was certainly an interesting walk.
Passing a farm we got talking to the gentleman who lived their.
No longer a farmer but has a fabulous collection of old tractors and also a fabulous Jowett van. They were in immaculate condition. Found out we had a few acquaintances in common.
He said if he was in when we pass with the walking club he would be delighted to show them his collection.
i certainly know there will be some members who will be interested.
It was a a lovely walk which took us through some lovely countryside. Areas we haven’t been to before although so near to home.
Only one draw back was the deep mud in places!
Hopefully it will have dried out a bit by the time we bring the Pudseys.
It was a perfect Spring day so fingers crossed for the same good weather next time.
Only 5/6 miles but all up hill on the last couple of miles.
Had too many clothes on. Didn’t expect the temperature to reach 15C. And no cold wind.
So feeling shattered!
However enjoying a cuppa with my feet up.
Getting my strength up to make tea later!
Hope you are enjoying the Easter weekend.
