Tamarac Bonsai
Instead of heading straight home from St Paul this morning we decided to check out the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. We arrived an hour too early so went in search of breakfast. Discovered The Como Park Grill. Enjoyed a nice relaxing breakfast and coffee on their outside patio.
Back at the conservatory we walked through the Japanese Garden. Lovely place, took many photos. What intrigued me today, though, were the Bonsai trees. This is a Tamarac (Larix laricina) Bonsai. The Tamarac tree is very common in northern climates and when walking or skiing the trails of Minnesota you see a lot of Tamarac trees. This set of trees is about 24 inches at the tallest point. Made me lonesome for the North Woods!
