Wild Daffodil ( Narcissus pseudonarcissus )

With so many "tame" daffodils in flower we thought we had better pay our annual visit to "Wordsworth's host of Golden daffodils" at Glencoyne on Ullswater.  They weren't all in flower but still a good show.

Sadly a sign of the times, areas were roped off with notices proclaiming the area was being protected to allow natural regeneration.  Why do people not stick to paths, then such actions would be unnecessary.

This one has germinated in the space between the roots on a tree.  To me it illustrated wild daffodils well.  For me daffodils, particularly in public spaces are too often planted in formal rows or spaced out clumps.  Daffodils should be growing randomly.  The wild ones are much smaller, less showy and the outer perianth forms more of a cone than the flat disc so common in modern varieties.
