Spring Horticultural show
Went over to Mum’s after lunch and took her to the horticultural show. A friend of ours, who is president, seemed to have won most of the prizes but she assured us that she only entered all the categories ‘pour encourager les autres’ Something very soothing about looking at endless vases with three matching or varied daffodils in it. And a lovely scent in the air. We bought a slightly stale lemon drizzle cake and went home for tea adding it and some hot cross buns that I’d brought with me.
Managed to do a bit of gardening today, planting out spent bulbs mainly. Always slightly downbeat as a job as it won’t yield anything for a year but as I now have a lot of bulbs returning, including some fritillaries I tell myself it’s worth doing.
On the way back from Hambledon I stopped at a reliable patch of wild garlic and picked some leaves so I could make some pesto for supper to go with a roast rump of lamb picked up from SPF. Delicious combo
We watched the first episode of the new massive production of Shogun on Disney +. Quite dense and elaborate and of course mainly in Japanese, Brutally violent too but we enjoyed it.
In other news, the bird is still pecking at the window despite us putting a metal bird silhouette up and drawing some vertical lines down it with permanent marker. It’s going to need some more thought.
