Shades of Autumn
In my blip yesterday I said MrMacD was positive, when actually I meant negative. Must have been my Covid brain! I am definitely negative today also, which is such a relief.
The Harbour Street Jazz and Blues Festival started yesterday, but we couldn’t join in the fun until today, when I tested negative. We wandered down to the town just before 1pm and managed to catch a few musicians and bands before heading back up the hill at 4pm. We wandered down again at 6pm and arrived home just before 10pm.
It’s been a glorious sunny day and the town is packed, which is so good to see. There were a lot of interesting characters out and about today. All the performances are free and are paid for by lots of fundraising and the Grand Finale Fundraising Dinner tomorrow night. We thoroughly enjoyed the performances we managed to see - the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra, the Timaru Dixieland Jazz Band, the Djangocalypse Trio (who are described as a Gypsy Jazz group) and one or two others we caught in passing. We sat in the sun relaxing and listening to the Timaru Dixieland Jazz Band, which was rather nice after the last few days. Most of the members were older than us and we knew all the tunes, which shows our age, of course, but they were fun. We intended going to The Victoria Lounge at 6pm but it was packed out so we loitered for a while, then went to The Criterion Hotel, where we had drinks and a light meal and listened to the Djangocalypse Trio. They were very good and the pub was packed. After their performance we left to walk home and were very surprised to see that it was tipping down with rain. It must have been raining heavily for a while as the gutters and drains were roaring with water. It had stopped by the time we arrived home.
As we walked down to town the first time the sun was catching this beautiful little tree in Awamoa Park.
