Billy Goat

Pilsbury Castle

Possibly built about 1070 - 1080 to keep the troublesome north country folk in line after the Conquest. Evidently abandoned in early 1100’s due to WRAC (Wobbly Rubble And Crap) in the battlements that washed away in the rain.
Since the Normans had never been further north than Cherbourg they didn’t know how wet it was in Derbyshire (or is it Staffordshire?).
We started our walk in the sunshine but shortly after stopping here for lunch the rain began.
Not too wet and back mid afternoon.
