Sunset near Lake Ellesmere
I've had such a treat of a day. Horomaka had decided he'd like to have a day out, and that we could go exploring with our cameras along the Port Hills. So, I managed to drive safely along the icy roads from Sumner to his home near L.Ellesmere, up a narrow windy valley. I could have spent a whole morning capturing frosty misty scenes all the way up the valley! We headed up to Hilltop, with its breathtaking views over Akaroa Harbour (hope he posts an image of that), then back to Little River for lunch, via Pigeon Bay. Anyone who knows the area will gulp at that geographical sleight of hand, but that's what we did. Heading south on the Peninsula was the next destination, including going very high up to Gap Road and then back down via the Oruti Valley.
Many photos later we arrived back at Horomaka's home, and I think he was heading for the sofa, to put that knee up for a couple of hours before going out for dinner. I was captivated by the views on the drive back home and it probably took me half an hour longer than it should have! This image is of some of the flooding that has inundated the farmlands around L.Ellesmere recently, with L.Ellesmere itself in the distance.
