Not noticing

This could be another of my Appleby buildings series and it is actually an interesting one to which I will probably return at a later date.

However, there is something more interesting in this picture than the building - bollards!

There was a report in the local paper last week about the 200+ bollards in Appleby, the state they were in and whether they should be replaced. Apparently this is an issue that comes up regularly at Council meetings. Now Gordon and I were a little puzzled - 200+ bollards. During the 20 odd years we have lived here we have been into Appleby at least twice week and very often more than that. But we couldn’t think that we had ever seen a bollard, never mind 200+ of them! Where were they? Why have we never noticed them?

I think its a case of seeing but not really noticing as - yes they are all around. There are three in this photo, each looking a little battered as has been mentioned. No one seems to know how long they have been there, nor why they are there. They don’t seem to serve a useful purpose. I wonder how many other people have never even noticed them. 

Nice to see some sunshine today - at last.
