Silly Saturday - Shadrach
This little bear had been left on the shelf in a local garden centre when my late Mum decided to adopt him. His innards could be heated up in the microwave, so that he would be nice and warm to cuddle. But Mum wasn’t having any of that, and she named him Shadrach because she had saved him from a fiery furnace (for the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, see chapter 3 of the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament of the Bible). Mum and I used to be very silly and put Shadrach into all sorts of poses which made us cry with laughter.
One day, the doorbell rang and it was a gentleman called Mr Wilkes, who was coming to prepare some legal documents for Mum to sign. Except he was a day early, having got the date wrong in his diary. We made him a cup of tea and chatted for a while, and then he left promising to return the next day. It was only after he’d gone and we went back into the lounge that we saw Shadrach, kneeling on the sofa with his back to us, deep in prayer…..
Mr Wilkes never did mention our very pious little bear. I think he was far too discreet to do that.
Thank you to Laurie54 for hosting this month’s Silly Saturday.
