Salle de fête
Another early morning walk along the ridge took me to the village which is the administrative centre of our commune. There wasn't a soul around to disturb the tranquility of this scene, gazing across the lawn to the salle de fête - which would be the equivalent of a village hall.
Our commune has its own mayor, and she has been responsible for a major upgrade of our local facilities. The salle de fête is based around a building that was once a restaurant. I ate in it one time, around 30 years ago, when I learned that it had been the favourite holiday restaurant of the notorious "rivers of blood" British politician, Enoch Powell.
Well, at least he showed good judgment in his choice of restaurant, if nothing else.
