Diary of an Edinburgher

Walkies, then movies

Went to check if the council had indeed cleared up the litter mess in the Lawnmarket, I had sent a photo and a complaint. Yes, it's tidy today, but I should check in a day or two, as it's not regularly cleaned and there are no litter bins! WHY?

We walked down Victoria Street, always worth a stop for a photo. Actually, the Grassmarket looks quite tidy, as do quite a lot of streets. We noticed this when we came back from our OZ trip. But really, the whole town needs to be water blasted at night, its just a bit grubby...

We staggered up the Vennel Steps. Well - I staggered, with frequent stops - but Archie skipped up them, nae bother. Back home over the Meadows. NO coffee stop, because my Apple Pay isn't usable, I've mislaid my card and have sent for a new one. I could have taken cash, or another card, but I forgot.

In the afternoon I decided to go to a film 'Zone of Interest' - it sounded interesting and is up for many awards. JR decided not to come, and I'm glad she didn't bother. It was too long and rather boring. Nothing happened, just family life. But they were the family of Rudolf Hoss, the boss of Auschwitz who masterminded the killing of over three million Jews. Auschwitz itself was just over their garden wall, but the family lived a blissful middle class existence. Auschwitz is never seen, but heard - shouting, gunfire, dogs barking, constant distant wailing and screaming, and the chimneys burn red at night. But at £4, it was very good value. You can hardly get a coffee for that nowadays.

JR and Archie went for a big walk instead.

Our friends had a wonderful evening at the Illegal Eagles concert last night, so those tickets didn't go to waste.

PS Archie (and therefore us!) had his first peaceful night in a while...
