Chinese New Year's Eve

Long ago a huge monster terrorised a village each  year. Its name was Nain (which also means Year). All the villagers would run away and hide. Then one year an old man (or old woman) said they would stay in the village and face the monster. The others thought he would never be seen again. However, the old man made a whole lot of fireworks and he brought out red material to wave. When Nain appeared he waved the material and set off the fireworks with a terrific BANG! Nain was so scared he rushed away. Ever since then on New Year's Eve Chinese people let off fireworks and wear red so that  Nain will never come back.

On this gloriously sunny New Year's Eve it was the time for strolling around the parks and riverside in Zhanjiajie with family. As I hadn't got a family this one took me under their wing for a while and we ended up at this Pagoda in the woodland Park and Memorial garden. The two little girls are dressed in their best red dresses to celebrate.
How nice a day was that?!
