Surgery
I had my first day on surgical rotation today, and I've had a good day, the theatre even has it's own fish tank, which I've never seen before!
I like general surgery because you get to see so much variation, although most of the cases seem to be cholecystitis or peripheral vascular disease.
On the ward round I saw a man who had been bitten by a snake; instead of taking him to the hospital (which is what he wanted) his parents opted for a tourniquet and Ayurvedic medicine instead. It took five days for them to bring him in, and now he has an ischaemic and gangrenous foot. I can't understand why some people here are so distrustful of scientific medicine, especially for something as life threatening as a snake bite!
