An outing

Despite a late night (or early morning) last night, we couldn’t sleep in this morning as we had an appointment half an hour south of Oamaru.  Not only that, we had to drive on a gravel road (Mt Misery Road) through a forest to the meeting point - shearers’ quarters otherwise known as the “corporate box”.  There were around 20 of us gathered for the Rotary day out/social gathering -something different from the usual evening meetings.  We hitched a ride with the president and his wife in their 4x4 vehicle as our car was not suitable for the terrain up to the top of the Glencoe station.  Once there, the views were stunning and the air clear.

After admiring the stunning views and enjoying the fresh air, we headed back down to  the corporate box for a BBQ lunch - venison sausages, wild pig bacon and venison patties, all off the farm.  There were also tomatoes, coleslaw, beetroot, buns, rolls and bread, followed by homemade biscuits and apricot balls.  It was all delicious.  Everyone enjoyed the views, chatted about life and living and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Once back home there were household chores and shopping to do.  We only needed half a slice of toast with tomatoes, and an apple for supper.   We watched a couple of programmes on the iPad and then it was definitely time for bed.  A late night last night and lots of fresh air today has taken its toll.

It was a good day to celebrate seven months in our new home.
