St Génis des Fontaines

we drove to St Génis des Fontaines today where there is an ancient Benedictine abbey . I love cloisters and had only just realised that there are these relatively local ones that I hadnt yet visited. Having said that there do seem to be rather a lot of them around here. Whilst walking around the cloisters we heard some beautiful singing coming from the adjoining church and discovered what seemed to be an impromptu performance by a couple of women. The lights were on a timer and kept plunging them into darkness but I loved the rimlighting effect when this occurred. Above the cloisters there was an art exhibition including some mixed media work by a photographer, Finn Brassen, who I've not heard of before but rather liked his work. We then drove on to look at a restored priory , Saint Maria de Vilar , which is now  inhabited by some Romanian monks.
