Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 301
Today we cycled from Portobello to North Berwick following the John Muir Way. This is an excellent way of taking in the East Lothian coast and country. The majority of the route is off road. Part of the route runs very close to Muirfield Golf Course where the British Open takes place next month. Is it coincidence that the road leading to Gullane has just been resurfaced? Were the two military Chinook helicopters circling over the area part of the preparations? A large contingent of over 50 Police Officers were also in evidence and appeared to be walking the boundary on some kind of familiarisation exercise. It does all seem a little over the top for an activity that Mark Twain once famously described as good walk spoilt!
My blip could be subtitled a home thought from abroad as it shows Portobello Beach as seen from Cockenzie in front of its spookily desolate twin towered power station that is slowly being demolished. This distant view shows how Edinburgh's beach is like a theatrical footlight to the big name skyline stars that frequently try to upstage it .... but it my view, never quite succeed!
