A new adventure
I’ve never taken a local bus to the east of Funchal. Today we headed for the SAM bus stop to Santa Cruz, the second largest city on the island.
First find the bus stop.
Yes. We did. After wandering around and asking…and asking.
Then find the bus. Two came and we took the lovely modern one.
Google Maps and two helpful locals got us there. We took a photo of the bus stop we needed to return, and wandered down past the church.
It’s a lovely place and it was a glorious day.
The winds were strong and the waves dramatic. We had a lovely light lunch ( ridiculously cheap) and then realised there was an aeroplane immediately above us and low.
The notorious airport is just at the end of the beach. The first bit of the runway is marked by signs and a grassy patch on my photo.
My photo is rather busy but it shows how everything is so close together. The EasyJet plane poised there is waiting to take off (late) for Gatwick.
We just sat for ages and contemplated the waves which were huge (and catching the unwary).
After a while we climbed back up to the bus stop and had a stunningly beautiful journey home.
Bus fare….€2.75 each….
I loved it.
And I’ll do it again.
Extras…the church and the market
