Homme House
This morning fellow Blipfoto member SilverImages (Ken) arrived my house and we immediately departed for a full English breakfast in Ross on Wye (Herefordshire, UK).
Ken had arranged for us to meet with Mrs Jocelyn Finnigan late morning who owns and runs Homme House, Much Marcle, Herefordshire, with husband John and son Charles. Ken's dad was a butler at the house about 1939, and had taken photo's here. Ken is researching family history and wanted to see where his dad had worked. It's now a fabulous wedding venue and the website shows the house and 200 acre grounds here
The extra photo shows the listed Summer House (circ 1700AD) which has been restored and now available to stay for guests. The other extra is the drawing room used for wedding receptions, but I loved the light on the rich red carpet. The owners have done an exceptional job restoring and running this country estate that dates from the 14th century but largely rebuilt about 1650AD.
After a drive through the estate grounds to the entrance, we arrived at St Bartholomews Church I blipped here with it's amazing 1500 year old Yew Tree. Coffee and further chat followed at nearby Walwyn Arms before I was back home late afternoon for Ken to continue his journey to Ledbury for the weekend.
A great day out in lovely company it was great seeing a very old country house that's in pristine condition when many have been demolished or fallen into ruin due to costs and other issues.
We'll be out with neighbours and friends in our local pub tonight to see in the weekend. Weeks seem to go faster as one gets older!! Enjoy yours.
