Pikelets

I suspect I am one of the last people to have heard of pikelets.

This empty tin of shortbread - not just any tin of shortbread - was due for recycling when I took a closer look at the regional foods. I knew almost all of them though I would have been hard put to suggest Cornish sardines ( I’d have thought pasties). And is haggis from so close to the Borders?

In any event I did not recognise pikelets. But everyone else in the house did. So while I’ve learned a new word and delicacy (described as a cross between a scone, a crumpet and a Scotch pancake) I have yet to taste one.

Anyhow, it seemed appropriate for Shrove Tuesday. Even the dog got his own pancake though there is a touch of cannibalism about his !
