Viewing the Moon
It was time was another visit to Winchester, most of which was spent in the cathedral where the Festival of the Moon was taking place. This is a mobile art installation by Luke Jerram and featuring NASA images of the moon. The last installation I visited by this artist was of the earth on display in Stowe School, Viewing the Earth | DawnP | Blipfoto.
The 7-metre diameter moon (approx. 1:500,000 scale) is hung in the nave which had been cleared of chairs (extra) - a very different view from normal, and it was nice to be able to see the original flooring as would have been the case in earlier times. I also visited the crypt which, as usual for this time of year, was flooded giving the now classic view of Antony Gormley's Sound II statue (extra 2).
All in all, an interesting and good day out.
