Hazel
A shrub or small tree. It is believed to have been one of the first trees to recolonize Britain after the last ice age.
My main shot shows the familiar male catkins. They open just before the female flowers which are then wind pollinated.
The extra attempts to show the minute red female flower which comes out several inches behind the males.
As Idon’t have a macro lens it was difficult to photograph butI think you can see the red petals.
I have blipped this before but as it gave rise to some interest it can have another outing.
