nest building

This industrious little flicker was whistling while it worked to enlarge an opening in the tree. At first I heard it before I saw it, and then I saw only its hind end sticking out (see extra). Finally it backed out to work on the "door."
As an aside, I also saw the red-tailed hawk working on her nest too.
Spring is in the air!
