A Little Bit of Wales in Oklahoma City
These have been exciting days in downtown Oklahoma City as the staff of the Museum has been getting ready for the "Turner to Cezanne, Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales" which opens tomorrow.
The docents had a walk-thru of the collection today with Michael Tooby, Director of Learning and Programmes, National Museum Wales. I think he may be my favorite curator with a collection to give a walk-thru since I've been a docent. He was engaging as well as very informative and funny.
Tonight he gave a special lecture, "Becoming Modern: Art from Turner to Cézanne and Two Pioneer Collectors" which was followed by the Member's Preview Party.
One of my favorite things in a walk-thru is the guest curator's reaction to the design of the exhibit by our designer, Ernesto Sanchez.
When the curator from the Louvre, Daniel Roger, was here with the Roman Collection last summer, he said Oklahoma City was his favorite of the three venues that traveled in the United States, the other two being Indianapolis and Seattle.
Today, Michael Tooby said he loved the way Ernesto had created smaller rooms within the exhibit which made you pause and look at the work, which was followed by the comment he had learned a lot from our designer.
I love it when they say things like that about our staff.
After the member preview, we had dinner at our Museum Cafe, which serves fabulous food, featured in this shot.
