The old and new

Poor girl, a harsh looking photo, the flash - a dark afternoon - showing her startled look.

She is sat on a table made by John and a friend about 48 years ago. The wood is pitch pine made into church pews some 150 years before John removed them, legally I hasten to add. Sadly the church in Cheltenham was to be sold (mid 70’s) and later became a restaurant. Pitch pine is believed to have arrived into the country via ships where the wood was used as ballast - the heaviest and hardest soft wood. The ‘leg’ ends are made from the side of a pew, you can see where a number or words would be placed, the other end of the table has the number still intact 22, apparently some would have ‘Free’ on the inset, info from John.

The table has stood the test of time, it is solid and large enough to seat 4 or at times 6 or less comfortably more people - or cats. Just under on the right can be seen a hint of a colourful dining room chair, a new addition when looking for something a little more comfortable. I have only bought two as a trial, come to think of it Bobbiegirl likes to sit on this as well. You can tell who rules the roost.
