The smoke alarm in the hall was well over 10 years old, but still worked if you made toast with the kitchen door open. It also had an escape light in case the fire caused a mains failure. Alas the modern ones don’t have such a sensible feature. Instead I fitted a mains powered alarm and an emergency light that comes on if the mains fails - which it does a lot round here with overhead power cables.
The green led means we won’t have to use the hall lights!
Why does an indicator have to be so bright?
