Re-upping the wood supply

This is largely false acacia from years back. Lovely pattern and splits easily. Was used for parquet flooring. Burns very hot and has been known to melt the floor out of log burners. Splintery and sharp on the hands.

Winter feigns to advance. Have been listening to the first of Shona Maclean’s Alexander Seaton series set in 16? Century Banff on the Moray coast. Atmospheric but longish winded. Good value in hours per £/€ listening. Declined on others as reviews were iffy. Fell on a recent John Donne biography that got great reviews. Bits are better than others.

For a treat listen to the wonderful Andrew Scott reading Dubliners. Stunning rendition of Joyce’s stories (written at age 22 although The Dead at 27) set in turn of century depressed and put upon Dublin.

As I was chopping away in all its glory ( the clean split) and drudgery (collecting all that scattered wood for stacking) the moon crept up over the high Appenine ridge behind me in a geometrical stable sky marked out by con trails.

I finished off and paced the drive in the chilling air to get my ten thousand steps for the day.
