Abbey Road

No, not the one you’re thinking of. But it is a recording studio and if you look out of the window you can just see Abbey Road. Though that’s Abbey Road in Barrow rather than St. John’s Wood.
Now, I’m not claiming that anything recorded here compares to the likes of Sergeant Pepper but, over the years, Stuart has recorded many fine tracks in this room. At one point there was even a separate drum room behind the door in the corner.
Today though, I was there to hear some initial ideas for a tune to go with some lyrics I’d written about leaving a band (always write about what you know!) and had forwarded to Stu a couple of weeks back. He’d laid down an acoustic guitar track and a bass line and there was a drum track as well. This latter was what impressed me the most, as it was totally AI generated using specialist software that followed the bass line.
It definitely has the makings of a decent song, but we need to tweak some of my lyrics to make them a better fit - at the moment there has to be an extra half bar of C in verse three to make it scan correctly!
Looking forward to seeing how it develops over the coming weeks. I came up with an idea for an outro chorus whilst we were having a brew later on, which may or may not get added in. Who knows, I may even be able to do a few overdubs at some point.
I’m sure there are bigger home recording studios out there, but how many of those have a crystal chandelier in them…
